Nepalese Buddhism inherited the Mahayana Buddhist sutras which were established in India in original Sanskrit. The Sanskrit sutras which survived in the Kathmandu Valley, surrounded by mountains on all sides, contributed greatly to the modern research of Mahayana Buddhism. Nowadays, Sanskrit sutras studies all over the world include many that have been found in Nepal.
